Failure of US anti-Iran resolution in UNSC product of changes in Int’l relations: FM Zarif

Tehran, Aug 17, IRNA - Foreign Minister and Lecturer of Faculty of International Studies affiliated to Tehran University Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday said that the international relations have witnessed changes, noting the failure of US anti-Iran resolution in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is the result of the changes.

He delivered a lecture on 'End of Hegemony' in the context of a series of online lectures with the theme of "The World in Transition" that was broadcast via the account of Tehran University’s Faculty of World Studies on Instagram social networking service.

Noting that the United States was accompanied by only one country at the recent United Nations Security Council meeting on the extension of Iran's arms embargo resolution, Zarif said that the current event was the cause of fundamental changes in the international relations.

He said that the US can also make a miscalculation. The US was accompanied by just one vote either with the 35 or 4 paragraph resolution. The US Secretary of State has to ask the Dominican Republic to accompany him.

Also, Zarif pointed to the arrogance and unprofessionalism as other deficiencies in the US diplomatic apparatus that were reflected in the appointments at the State Department.

What is to happen in the world is no longer due to the interactions of great powers, he said.

Iranian foreign minister went on to say that the world has entered the Post-Western era, adding that what is happening in the world is no longer due to great powers interaction.

Referring to the Astana peace process for solving the Syrian issue, Zarif stated that everyone was opposed to the process primarily because the West is accustomed to assuming that the West is the only origin of peace creation. In Africa, the situation is similar, and the African Union has been more successful in addressing various problems.
